Newbie to lathes

Hi, I am new to light engineering, at the moment I am attending a local tech college doing a course learning about light engineering,
One of the interesting things I have seen is the digital readouts on the X,Y and Z planes, can these devices be easily added to a Clarke CL500M Metal Lathe with Mill Drill?
I hope someone may be able to answer.
